The county is recognized as the educational hub for the Kent State University Geauga Campus and the Geauga County Ohio State University Extension, both located in Burton. In addition to providing a tremendous living environment, Geauga County is also home to many offices and light industry, giving numerous residents the bonus of not having to travel beyond county limits to work.

A strong New England influence still permeates Geauga’s town planning, long-standing traditions, and sound education initiatives. A drive through the county’s townships highlights the New England-style central green. These town squares are surrounded by the communities’ most valuable institutions-- church, school, and government. Fourteen county properties are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Burton and Chardon Town Squares.

The sweetest New England tradition brought to Geauga County was maple syrup. Today, a permanent sugar camp is operated by the Chamber of Commerce on Burton Square and the Geauga County Maple Festival has drawn thousands every year since 1926. The area is known as “Pancake Town, USA” and the “Maple Capital of Ohio. ”
Another tradition in Geauga County is The Great Geauga County Fair. Established in 1823, it is recognized as Ohio’s oldest, continuously operating fair.

Geauga's population tops 91,000 and continues to grow and diversify. Amish families have migrated into the farmlands and various ethnic populations have settled into the western suburbs and eastern rural areas. Young couples are starting families and elderly couples are enjoying the peace and serenity of rolling wooded hills.
