Five Egg-cellent Ways to Spruce Up Your Home This Easter Weekend

I won’t lie. I enjoy a good egg-related pun and Easter only comes once a year so why not take advantage of it? Remember the inimitable Vincent Price’s guest spot on the Batman TV series as the yolk-happy supervillain Egghead? No? Well, let’s just say he was a rather egg-centric character. A real egg-o maniac. Vincent was Egg-xemplary in the part, however. See, it’s just too easy.

Putting aside 1960s superhero television shows for a minute, let’s talk about what YOU can do to spruce up your home this Easter weekend. Not a great transition, I admit. It’s not an eggs-act science. Sorry! I have to stop now before I egg-acerbate the problem. Anyway, the Eastertide is a great time to start adding life back to your humble abode. Eggs have long signified fertility, rebirth and growth. No season better egg… er… exemplifies those concepts than Spring. The season that coincides with Easter and Passover festivities and traditions. It only makes since one’s home should undergo the same renewal every spring. What can you do to initiate it? The steps are much easier than you’d imagine.

Open the curtains, blinds and drapes and let in a little fresh air too- I admit as the resident vampire all of that sounds horrible to me and my drapes will remain defiantly closed. However, most people enjoy a splash or, even, a deluge of natural light. It’s calming, warming, beneficial to well-being and it can liven up a room in two seconds flat. Additionally, if you plan to list your home this Spring or Summer, keep in mind that natural light is well-known for making rooms look bigger and airier than they really are. Which, is a definite plus.

Plant some trees. Inside- The benefits of indoor planets are innumerable. In terms of well-being, study after study has found that having plants in the home can be calming, stress-reducing and mood boosting. Their presence also results in cleaner air, though you’d need lots and lots of them to move the needle in a way a commercial air-purifier would, for example. Still, the positives seem to far outweigh the negatives. Plants also add a fresh pop of color and vitality to any indoor space.

Let your home speak with a new accent… wall, that is- While accent walls have waxed and waned in popularity with designers over the years, one thing is for sure: a nice accent wall commands attention. Painting or wallpapering one wall in the room with a brighter hue or using lighting to call attention to particular details or furnishings adds a vibrant flare to just about any space. A splash of lime green, yellow, lavender, light blue or another springy color might be just what the doctor ordered. Opening up the space and making it feel more alive and exciting.

Go all in on seasonal imagery- The tasteful placement of rabbits, eggs or other Easter holiday-related imagery can make the space look lived in and well-maintained. People want homes to give them a glimpse of what’s possible more than a glimpse of what is. They don’t want to have to imagine how things could look for them or their family, they want you to show them. Of course, the Eastertide closes out this Sunday but that doesn’t mean you can’t splice in little slices of Spring here and there. Replace the couch pillows with something lighter and brighter, replace the rug or toss it all together, place some flowers… bring Spring inside.

Up your curb appeal by getting a start on the landscaping- The first thing anyone sees when they visit your home is the outside of the home itself. Of course, the home and all its craftsmanship and architectural beauty will look a lot nicer if it’s surrounded by natural craftsmanship and beauty. Dump some fresh mulch, get to trimming and pruning, run the mower over the grass for the first time this season, dispose of leaves, twigs, branches and other visible reminders of winter’s foreboding decay. Personally, I appreciate foreboding AND decay but again, others like color and light and all that jazz. So, while some of us may not be ready to sling landscaping timbers or refinish the deck… soon, we’ll have no choice!
