How To Stay Active From Home

How To Stay Active From Home

Staying physically active is very important to maintaining good health, both physically and mentally. Regularly exercising will help keep your immune system in tip-top shape, which is what we all need right now.  We know it might be hard to stay motivated from your living room, but there are so many ways to stay active from home, get your workout in and clear your mind!

Stand Up

Sitting down for too long can make you tired and less productive when working.  Try to take a break and stand up at least every hour. If you are on a call that doesn’t require a laptop or webcam, try to stand and walk around while you take the call. Similar to walking meetings at the office, taking calls while standing or walking around your home will force you to take a much-needed screen break to reduce the strain on your eyes. It’s a great way to sneak some additional stretches in throughout the day too!

Take an Online Workout Class

Take advantage of all the online workout classes that gyms, trainers and websites are offering right now! There are so many classes being offered, from full-body workouts to meditation and yoga classes there is something for everyone.  Peloton is offering a free 90-day trial to any users, without purchasing their bike or treadmill.  You can easily feel like you are in the class by setting up a phone or tablet and exercising along with the instructors.  Choose from bodyweight exercises, running and their famous spin classes to get your heart pumping! Orange Theory is offering daily workouts on their Youtube channel that can all be done from the comfort of your living room.  [Solidcore] and Pure Barre are also offering versions of their Pilates-based workouts online.  Online workouts are a great way to break up your day at home. They are accessible to take whenever fits your schedule.  Just clear a space in your house and get your sweat on!

Take Short Breaks

When you are at home, it is easy to get in the same routine of doing things and not take time for yourself.  Whether you are working or taking care of kids, make sure you remember to get up and take a break every so often.  If you need a break from your computer, try and schedule a quick workout using the 7 Minute Workout app. The app is a great way to get a quick workout in and clear your mind in just a few minutes.  Doing this a few times a day could even increase your productivity! Even small household tasks such as walking to the mailbox or switching a load of laundry is a good way to take a break from your busy schedule and cut down on screen time.

Go for a Walk

When you are feeling trapped in your house, step outside and take a walk or jog around your neighborhood.  Even a few minutes outside for a walk will get your heart pumping and boost your mood. Use this time to strengthen your relationship with your family and friends.  Taking a walk can be a great bonding activity that will get you up and moving!

Staying physically active during this time can be challenging.  Even if you don’t have a home gym or access to equipment, there are plenty of ways to do body-weight exercises or get a little fresh air.  Staying active is important during this time, even if it is for just a few minutes. Get outside and stay healthy!
